HandPicked CSA Terms & Conditions

Please read the entire share terms below before registering.

WHO WE ARE:

Handpicked CSA is a subsidy of HomeGrown Direct LLC, operated and managed by Jacob, Megan, Beckham, and Amber Sharpe. Over the past decade, brothers and ninth-generation farmers, Jacob and Beckham Sharpe, have transitioned their family tobacco farm into a diversified 230-acre farming operation. It is HomeGrown Direct’s commitment to our community to provide a safe, local and fresh avenue for community members to obtain vegetables and fruits that have been grown in Kentucky throughout the growing season.

THE CSA COMMITMENT:

When subscribing for a Handpicked CSA share, you are committing to partnering with our farm for the 20-week growing season. Members commit to a price for a portion of the farm’s production. HomeGrown Direct will harvest the produce throughout the season and provide subscriptions weekly to a central distribution point. Each weekly box will contain 6-7 different produce items that are harvested during peak freshness. Members can feel safe knowing that HomeGrown Direct is USDA GAP+ certified and has completed a 3rd party audit, and all produce is planted, harvested and stored at or above recommended produce safety protocols.

Please keep in mind that a core principle of the CSA concept is the shared commitment between the farm and members. The CSA model is meant to share not only the bounty of the farm but also the potential risks that may come with each growing season, whether that be an extended period of drought or a serious insect infestation. We will always provide a diverse share, but we cannot guarantee certain quantities of specific items at any point in the season.

The subscriber assumes complete responsibility for picking up their share. HomeGrown Direct will send a weekly email to remind members of pick-up. If the subscriber can’t pick up, they must make arrangements to have a neighbor, friend, coworker or family member pick up the share instead. Each member pays for the share each week regardless if it gets picked up. If you know ahead of time that you are unable to pick up your Handpicked box, and cannot make alternate accommodations, please send an email to homegrowndirect@gmail.com to let us know that you will be forfeiting your share for the week. Handpicked boxes that are not picked up during scheduled times will not be stored for future pick-ups.

It is the subscriber’s responsibility to open and read the emails sent to them regarding their share (including payment notices).

DELIVERY:

HomeGrown Direct does offer front door delivery to businesses and neighborhoods with 10+ subscribers from the same location, free of charge. If you do not see your neighborhood or workplace mentioned at checkout, please leave this in the notes section. We will contact you closer to the start of the season if your neighborhood or workplace qualifies for delivery.

You must live within the neighborhood to qualify for delivery (i.e living 5 miles away from the neighborhood would not qualify you for delivery). Please only select delivery if you live/work within the neighborhood or business.

We will not offer “one-off” deliveries for an additional cost at this time.

PAYMENT POLICIES:

The cost of a subscription includes the once a week Handpicked box for 20 weeks. Subscriptions will be available to order beginning January 17, 2024. Subscriptions are on a “first come” basis. If our subscriptions for the season sell out, you will be placed on a waitlist. If we still have subscriptions available at the beginning of the season, we will prorate the total payment amount to accommodate missed weeks.

Pending subscription box size, you will receive a credit to your account ($25 for peck, $30 for ½ bushel or $45 for bushel) to use on bulk produce or KY Proud processed goods made from local produce (salsa, marinara sauce, jam, jelly, dips or eggs). You will not receive a monetary refund if your credit is not used by the end of the season.

– You will not be able to cancel a membership once the season begins, but you may transfer your share to another individual if unforeseen circumstances prevent you from continuing as a member (unexpected relocation, etc). We can attempt to find someone to assume your subscription if we have pending members on the waitlist. Cancellations prior to the start of the season will be required to commit to payment of the $200 deposit.
